Teaching Online
21st Century Learning for 21st Century Learners

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) provides opportunities for teachers interested in teaching online. The resources provided below summarize professional development and other offerings designed to support MCPS teachers interested in teaching online.

Professional Development Opportunities:

  • Web-based Teaching and Facilitating (3 CPD Credits): This four-week course should be taken only by certified Health or Technology Education teachers interested in teaching the cooresponding online courses. This course prepares teachers to teach and facilitate online learning for students by providing a foundation in methods, skills, processes, and best practices for teaching and facilitating a completely online course.

  • Maryland Virtual School (MVS): The Maryland Virtual School offers professional development and teaching opportunities to teachers throughout the state of Maryland. Contact Sheila Locastro (SLocastro@msde.state.md.us) at the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for information on professional development requirements and teaching opportunities.

  • Virtual Mentoring: This one-week, fully online course prepares MCPS teachers who have demonstrated superior online teaching skills, to work with teachers new to online teaching. This course will be offered for the first time in late spring 2009 for teachers with previous experience teaching online for MCPS.

Online Teaching Opportunities:

  • Upon completion of the Web-based Teaching and Facilitating course, teachers certified in health or technology education may apply to teach online summer school classes for MCPS.  Applications will be accepted in March 2009. Join us!
