Making More Important Connections!

School Library Media Programs (SLMP) met with Elementary Principals on November 5 th to communicate the emphasis on improving student achievement through the integration of information literacy skills with the curriculum. SLMP will meet with principals again to share more details on the SLMP strategic plan.

Prince Georges County Visits MCPS

Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) is in the process of revitalizing its school library media program. On November 30th, the PGCPS school library media team visited a few MCPS exemplary school library media programs. The SLMP team from PGCPS and MCPS visited the Professional Library, the Video Library, Churchill HS, Newport Mill MS, and Chevy Chase ES. The visitors were very impressed with the services MCPS provides, as well as the evident collaborative planning and integrated instruction that was observed at each school. A big thank you to those staff who participated in the visit and made us all proud.

2005 Vendor Day--A Huge Success
Office of Strategic Technologies and Accountability partnered with School Library Media Programs to pull off a well-organized event on January 13, 2005. Over 30 vendors displayed and/or presented their products to over 185 Montgomery County Public School staff, including instructional specialists, library media specialists, and teachers. The purpose of the event was to evaluate the latest educational resources in order to make informed purchasing decisions.

ES Principals' Meeting
On January 7, 2005 the Office of School Library Media Programs presented "Student Achievement and School Library Media Programs" to elementary principals. The presentation was well received and many library media specialists have since reported that their principals have met with them to discuss the Information Literacy Skills integration.
