The Friendly Visitor Program needs volunteers (10/26/09)
The Elderly have a wealth of things to share...be there to listen.

Volunteers are needed to visit frail, isolated elderly who live in the Silver Spring and Wheaton areas. Volunteers are matched with individuals in the community based on common interests and geographic area. The friendships are very special and both volunteer and client enjoy and learn from one another. Volunteers visit once a week for an hour and commit to visiting for one year. Training is provided.

The Friendly Visitor Program has been visiting elderly in the community for more than 30 years and has provided over 250,000 hours of contact. Friendly Visitor is one of 11 direct service programs at the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County. The Mental Health Association sponsors and implements advocacy, education and community service programs that promote mental health and wellness and support those with mental illness. A private, nonprofit the MHA has served Montgomery County residents for over 50 years.
