Volunteer Opportunities

The award winning children’s Good Grief Club, sponsored by Hospice Caring, Inc., is in need of volunteer facilitators. If you are interested in working with grieving children during school hours, in MCPS schools, this is the opportunity for you. The Good Grief Club is a peer support group (co-facilitated by volunteer and MCPS guidance counselor) and is held once a week for approximately 50 minutes, for seven consecutive weeks. This non-therapy group uses arts and crafts, readings, games and discussions to assist children working through their feelings of grief. The curriculum and materials are supplied by Hospice Caring.

The Good Grief Club is offered free of charge to the students and to MCPS schools and is funded by Hospice Caring through grants and community support.

For the 2006 – 2007 school year, there were 35 Good Grief clubs held in county schools and 220 children, K – 12, were given the opportunity to express their grief, learn coping skills and ways to make positive memories.

Training would consist of a three day general Hospice Caring, Inc. training and latter a two day Good Grief Club training.

Please call Valerie Taylor, 301-990-8904, Director of children’s Bereavement, to find out more about this very rewarding volunteer opportunity.
