The Interdisciplinary Augmentative Communication and Technology Team of Montgomery County Public Schools (InterACT) is staffed and supported through the Division of Preschool Special Education and Related Services. InterACT collaborates with school teams to support MCPS students with severe communication disabilities to increase their ability to communicate through augmentative communication and other assistive technology systems and strategies. Emphasis is placed on increasing the student's communication skills in school, home, community, and work environments.

InterACT provides consultation to assist the local school team and parents in the evaluation, selection, and uses of augmentative and assistive technology. While InterACT will assist with diagnostic and prescriptive recommendations, the local school team is directly responsible for implementing the augmentative communication and assistive technology strategies in the educational setting. InterACT consults with school teams to recommend classroom integration strategies.

The InterACT Team consists of speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, a physical therapist, special educators, and technical support assistants. The team collaborates with outside agencies and other MCPS professionals as needed.
