Schools may request customized training

What type of training can HIAT provide to schools?

HIAT can provide a one-time training session - usually 1.5 hours or longer - that addresses a particular technology tool or topic.  Your trainer will work with you to design a training that will meet a specific need.

HIAT can also customize a training series or systematic approach to coach staff toward a specific goal.  This may include follow-up tasks and feedback, email support, and help determining if your outcomes are being reached. We call this a cohort training series.

How many people do you need to commit to on-site training?

We'd like to know that the training will result in spreading new skills and knowledge to the school. Therefore, you should request training if you have a significant number of people interested in learning a topic. You might also have a smaller group of individuals who are committed to implementing a strategy within a department, grade-level, or the whole school. Individuals interested in a topic for their own benefit should sign up for a scheduled class.

Training Topics

We can train on technology tool use and strategies for classroom integration. Some past topics include:

  • Clicker 5 – creating word banks and ebooks
  • UDL in the classroom
  • Beginner and advanced Kurzweil skills
  • Implementing Bookshare at your school

We'll tailor the training to your school or department goals. Examples of goals are:

  • Decreased dependence on human reader for struggling readers through use of Kurzweil, Natural Reader and WordQ
  • Improved performance and output for struggling writers at all grade levels

How do I request training at my school?

You can make a request by completing the on-site training request online. It takes just 5 minutes. When we review your request for training, we'll ask you what you want to accomplish and how you will know that the training has resulted in some benefit to your students. Make sure that you give at ample lead time to discuss your needs, plan a training model, and ensure that the technology required is available and functional.
