Barbara Britton:

Congratulations to Barbara Britton who recently became an MCPS E-TIPS Leader. Barbara is a Speech-Language Pathologist at Paint Branch, Magruder and Kennedy High Schools. To become an E-TIPS Leader, Barbara completed the required 75 hours by attending voluntary after-school training and completing numerous assignments.

E-TIPS classes are offered by the Technology Consulting staff, Library and Media Services staff, Supporting Services staff, HIAT and InterACT staff.

Originally from Pittsburgh Barbara Britton grew up in Erie where her family still resides. Barbara attended Robert Morris College to study Secretarial Sciences and after working two years as a secretary she decided on a career change. Within a short time she became a speech-language pathologist, earning a BA in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Pittsburgh and her Masters at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Barbara’s internship at Children’s Hospital (it was still located on 13th Street at the time) provided great training before joining the Baltimore Public School System. After three years she returned to the DC area to work for a variety of private and public institutions including Christ Child Institute in Rockville, Visiting Nurses Association of DC, Montgomery General Hospital, and Rehabilitation Services, Inc.

Barbara has been with MCPS  for over 15 years starting as a contract Speech-Language Pathologist with Berman &  Peverly Assoc. at  Takoma Park MS. Later as a full time employee she was assigned to White Oak and Sligo Middle Schools.  Currently servicing high school students at Paint Branch, Col. Zadok Magruder and John F. Kennedy, Barbara enjoys exploring how the Technological Sciences can help students with speech and language difficulties be better communicators.  Barbara would like to help others in her field find more ways to take full advantage of the incredible union that could be developed between the two sciences.

Barbara has enjoyed each and every workshop offered by HIAT and intends to continue broadening her understanding of AT tools. Barbara is doing the best she can to utilize the use of these programs with her students. While there is never enough time she will not be deterred.  Barbara says, “I will continue to do everything I can to help my students be better learners.  Thank you HIAT for all you do, it is appreciated.”
