Doris Wray: Success with Accessible Technology Through Teamwork.
Congratulations to Doris Wray who recently became an MCPS E-TIPS Leader. Doris is a Speech Pathologist at Sherwood Elementary School. To become an E-TIPS Leader, Doris completed 75 hours of voluntary after-school training that focused on using technology to support all students. E-TIPS classes are offered by the Technology Consulting staff, Library and Media Services staff, Supporting Services staff, HIAT and InterACT staff. |

Four years ago, Doris signed-up for the Don Johnston SOLO Suite workshops with four other staff members from Sherwood ES. The group immediately recognized applications for these technology resources for many students in their school. With the mindset of “if you don’t use it, you will lose it,” they set to work to expand the use of technology with students at Sherwood ES. In particular, Doris’s background as a Speech Pathologist allowed her to better integrate oral language supports and skill development in math, science, reading and writing by using these software tools. Since that point, Doris has taken a number of courses on specific software programs to support students who struggle in reading, writing and math. She continues to be a leader in her school to promote flexible ways for all students to access the curriculum and share her experiences from E-TIPS trainings. Most recently, Doris has helped teach several E-TIPS trainings and is finding new ways to use multi-media tools (e.g. Microsoft Photostory, podcasting) to support students’ oral language skills in their curriculum. Doris loves it when other school staff come to her with questions and values close staff collaboration with technology. “I do not always have the answers, but together we walk through the problems and resolve the issues.” HIAT thanks Doris for her ongoing leadership in promoting accessible technology for students!
