Did you know there are lots of ways to earn E-TIPS hours?
E-TIPS hours aren’t just for attending classes any more. You can earn hours by furthering your own implementation of technology in the classroom, or by sharing what you know with others. See how to earn E-TIPS hours on the HIAT website.
Websites to support teaching
HIAT maintains lists of websites that support teaching across all subject areas. They are categorized to help you find what you need quickly. All websites listed are used by MCPS teachers so you know they will support the MCPS curriculum. You’ll also find resources for e-text and graphics.
Join the E-TIPS Google Group
Get news when it matters! Share questions and ideas with fellow E-TIPpers. If you have a Gmail account already, you can sign on with your Google login. Go to groups.google.com/group/etips to request access. You must be an MCPS employee, so please give your complete name and job title. Anyone interested in using technology to support students is welcome. You do not need to have taken any E-TIPS classes to join.
Making Kurzweil Work at Your School
As E-TIPper Michele Koenick hit the nail on the head when she said, “We really need to talk to each other about this.” Here’s one roadmap for implementing Kurzweil in a school with one computer per classroom. How did you make it happen for your students?

What’s happening with SOLO in MCPS?
SOLO software is no longer being purchased for schools when the technology in the building is refreshed through the Tech Mod process. It is still available in Tech Mod 07 and 08 schools
NaturalReader and WordQ can read any text on the screen inclulding websites
Kurzweil is a full-featured text reader much like SOLO Read:OutLoud that can open Word docs, and can convert other documents to a readable format. |
