What are CPD SA-87 and CPD SA-88?

  • CPD SA-87 is “Technology proficiencies for educators: Strategies to support students.”
  • CPD SA-88 is “Software tools and strategies to support reading and writing.”
  • Both courses are accessible technology courses focusing on improving student performance. They both earn E-TIPS Hours as well as 1 MSDE credit.

How are SA-87 and SA-88 different from other 1-credit CPD courses?

Rather than registering for a course that meets on five set dates, SA-87 and SA-88 allow you to earn 1 CPD credit for taking five 3-hour workshops of your choice from a specific list of classes.  You can take the individual workshops in any order you like provided all five workshops are completed in the same school year.  Once you have taken five workshops from the list, you may apply for 1 CPD credit.  See the reverse for the list of eligible workshops.

So, how do I register for the workshops I want to take?

Attend the E-TIPS workshops that you want to take.  Register for them in the normal fashion through the PDO (Professional Development Online).  You will need to make sure you complete the out-of-class assignment for the workshop and receive E-TIPS Hours in order to apply the workshop toward SA-87or SA-88.

I took five E-TIPS workshops. Now how do I get my CPD credit?

Once you have completed your five workshops, including class assignments, e-mail HIAT Kathleen Hamm with the list of workshops with dates you would like applied to a CPD credit. We will confirm you have completed the five required workshops and submit your name to MSDE for credit.  At this point, you will be charged the $35 CPD fee.  Note that you are not charged $35 for each workshop you take, only for the group of five after your name is submitted for credit.

If I take a workshop listed under both SA-87 and SA-88, can I use it for both courses?

No, you must complete 15 hours of class time for each CPD course, so if you want to earn CPD credit for both SA-87 and SA-88, you will need to take ten unique workshops (five from each list).

Do I need to decide ahead of time that I plan to request a CPD credit by registering for SA-87 or SA-88?

No, but you do need to make sure you did not opt to earn a stipend for any of the workshops you later apply toward a CPD credit. If you receive a stipend for an E-TIPS workshop, then you will not be able to use it toward earning a credit in SA-87 or SA-88. In cases where stipends are offered, you will be given a choice as to whether you take the stipend or not.
