Timeline: Coaching relationship lasts for at least 4 months within the current school year

Research shows that a coaching relationship is the most effective form of staff development.  Benefits extend to the coach as well as the coachee.  Coaching happens informally within school teams all of the time.  Adding a simple structure to give priority to coaching activities is important to maintain benefits during a busy school year.


Your coaching relationship should:

  • Have some structure that guarantees a continuation of support
  • Last at least one semester or 4 months
  • Include some way of documenting goals and progress such as journal entries
  • Be tailored to the needs of the coachee
  • Infuse a perspective of Universal Design for Learning
