Encore is a new online IEP and student
intervention system. In response to many parent and
school requests, the Maryland State Department of Education
has developed a common Maryland State IEP. If families
move from county to county in Maryland, the IEP paperwork
will be the same, resulting in better services for students.
Individual counties are allowed to implement this State
IEP in a variety of ways using different tools. To address
this new IEP, MCPS has purchased the Encore system from
Spectrum Schools Solutions in Towson, Maryland. Encore
will use the State IEP form, but in addition, Encore
can bring together information from several MCPS databases.
This coordination of student information, in one central
database, will allow us to better serve our parents
and students.
Starting September 2007, the Department of Special
Education is conducting training of Special Education
staff. Schools and offices are being trained in teams
to help support the transition to an electronic IEP.
As with any computer application the Help Desk, at 301-517-5800,
is ready to help new users with any issues. In addition,
over 280 school principals and assistant principals
have been trained to enable them to be more involved
in the Special Education process at their school.
By December 2007, all current Special Education staff
will have attended this mandatory training and voluntary
training will start in January 2008 for other school
staff including: Special Education para educators, School
Secretaries, and Guidance Counselors. Future training
plans may include general education staff working with
Special Education students.
Only users who have attended training
will be able to use Encore. Registration for Encore
training can be found by accessing the Professional
Development Online Website
Encore can be accessed by using the
user id and password you were given at training. The
web address of the Encore page is: https://encore.mcpsmd.org/Encore/EncoreCBLWebUI/Login.aspx
All schools will be required to use
Encore as of January 1, 2008. Schools may use Encore
prior to Jan. 1st if they have been trained and the
Principal approves.
Encore cannot be accessed from home
at this time.
