For the third year, we are promoting Maryland Home Grown School Lunch Week by featuring locally grown fruits and vegetables on the menu from September 13 – 17, 2010. Apples, melons, celery, cucumbers, peppers, corn and green beans are some of the Maryland agricultural products that will be served in the cafeteria. It's all part of recognizing Senate Bill 158, the Jane Lawton Farm-to-School Program created during the 2008 Session of the Maryland General Assembly. Maryland agriculture will also be promoted through classroom programs and interaction between students and local farmers. Students learn about where their food comes from, how it's produced and the benefits of a healthy diet. Last year's program was an overwhelming success and shows great promise for the future. We're excited to promote Maryland's best... fresh from the farm.
