What is the Back-to-School Fair?
The Back-to-School Fair, begun in 2008, is a community-wide event held for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students and their families. School offices, community organizations and businesses come together to answer questions, provide information about services and offer a day of exciting activities, including music, entertainment, snacks, games and more. The fair is free and open to all MCPS families.

When and where is the Back-to-School Fair being held?
The 2010 Back-to-School Fair will be held on Saturday, August 28, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.

Will there be parking or other transportation?
Limited free parking is available at Montgomery College, across the street from the fair. Free parking and bus transportation is provided to and from the fair throughout the day from the following high schools:

  • Blair
  • Einstein
  • Gaithersburg
  • Kennedy
  • Northwest
  • Paint Branch
  • Richard Montgomery
  • Rockville
  • Springbrook
  • Seneca Valley
  • Watkins Mill

    Who organizes the Back-to-School Fair?
    The Back-to-School Fair is organized by MCPS's Department of Family and Community Partnerships, in cooperation with local businesses, community organizations and individuals.

    Who supports the Back-to-School Fair?
    The fair would not be possible without the support and collaboration of numerous government agencies, local businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals. Last year, 79 businesses and organizations donated money, services or supplies to help make the fair a success.

    What impact will the fair have on students and parents in Montgomery County?
    The Back-to-School Fair is an important way to bring families together to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and to learn about programs and services that will help them support their children's achievement. Families who have attended the fair appreciate how the school system, community organizations and businesses join together to support parents and celebrate the start of the school year.

    How can I participate in the Back-to-School Fair?
    You can participate in the fairing the following ways:

  • Make a financial contribution.
  • Donate a product or service for the prize drawings.
  • Donate school supplies.
  • Volunteer to help on the day of the fair.
  • Come and enjoy the festivities on August 28. (Look for the Back-to-School Fair flyer soon!)

    Where do I send a monetary contribution?
    Please complete and
    submit the online Donor Form, or print the form and mail it with your check to Department of Family and Community Partnerships, 850 Hungerford Drive, Suite 50, Rockville, MD 20850. Checks should be made payable to MCPS Educational Foundation (indicate “Back-to-School Fair” in the memo section.)

    How do I donate school supplies or an item/service for the prize drawings?
    Please complete and
    submit an online participation form, or print the form and mail to Department of Family and Community Partnerships, 850 Hungerford Drive, Suite 50, Rockville, MD 20850.

    Are donations tax deductible?
    Yes, your donations to the Back-to-School Fair are considered a charitable contribution. You will receive a letter that includes the Montgomery County Public Schools employer identification number for your tax-exempt contribution.

    How will the community know of my donation?
    Names of our business and community partners will be listed on the Back-to-School Fair website, in the program and on a large poster of sponsors during the day of the event.
