National Board Certified Teachers

NCBT Network

Mission:

The National Board Network believes that the single most important action teachers in Montgomery County can take to improve schools and student learning is to strengthen the teaching profession. We are committed to furthering and supporting the mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. We will maintain high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.

Our goals are to advance the quality of teaching by

• creating a professional community,
• providing service to the profession, and
• contributing to the knowledge base of teaching.

Attaining National Board Certification must not be the end for those who achieve this status, but rather the beginning. Our intent is to bring together the voices of NBCTs and promote recognition of their leadership role. As articulate, thoughtful teacher leaders, NBCTs advocate for “Better teaching, Better Learning, and Better Schools” on behalf of all teachers and the teaching profession, within each school, the school system, and regarding state and national education policy.

Purpose

To accomplish our mission, the Network will maintain an ongoing professional dialogue among National Board Certified Teachers. We will facilitate the support of NBPTS candidates to increase the number and diversity of NBCTs, particularly in the most challenging schools. We will discuss issues of educational policy. We will provide opportunities for NBCTs to develop their advocacy skills, and will create opportunities for NBCTs to influence educational policy. The Network will work to create career opportunities, a career lattice, and leadership roles for teachers with outstanding teaching credentials, particularly those committed to remaining in the classroom with students.
