CPD Courses

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development courses. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) now refers to in-service courses as CPDs. CPDs are MSDE approved credit-bearing courses. CPD credits count toward salary advancement and certification renewals for professional staff. Support staff and substitutes are encouraged to register for CPDs and can be considered on a space available basis. Please check with the Certification office for additional information.

New CPD Guidelines for non-public and long-term leave staff:

MCPS teachers have priority enrollment in all CPD courses. Non-public, long-term leave, substitute teachers, and supporting services staff are placed on a space availability basis. Check your email on a regular basis prior to the start of class in case you have been moved to the wait list or dropped from a class.

Effective March 30, 2009, a registration fee for each course depending on the number of credits will be collected via payroll deduction for all MCPS employees including substitute teachers after the completion of each course.

Non-MCPS and long-term leave participants only should contact our office. There will be a $50 non-refundable registration fee per course plus $30 per credit. Checks should be made payable to MCPS and sent to the following address at the beginning of each CPD course:

Office of Organizational Development CPD Registrar Montgomery County Public Schools, Upcounty Regional Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road., Germantown, MD 20874

If you have any questions about following these new guidelines, please call 301-601-4869.
