Mini-lecture: Giving Feedback: Tell It Like It Is?

In this presentation you will learn about effective feedback. According to Grant Wiggins, excellence is always achieved by self-adjustment in reference to known standards. Students must have:

* routine access to the criteria and standards for the tasks they need to master
* feedback in their attempts to master those tasks
* opportunities to use the feedback to revise work and resubmit it for evaluation against the standard.

Effective feedback supports learning because:
* it tells the student whether they are on course
* it is value-neutral
* it reports what did and did not happen

Excellence is attained by such cycles of model – practice – perform – feedback – perform.
