The mission of the
Diversity Training and Development Team is to build
capacity of MCPS instructional
leaders to close the achievement gap by race and ethnicity.
Enduring Understanding:
Culture exerts a powerful influence
on teaching and learning.
Essential Questions:
1. How do awareness, knowledge, and
understanding of one’s own culture promote
culturally competent teaching and learning?
2. How do awareness, knowledge, and
understanding the cultures of students promote effective
teaching and learning?
3. How can educators establish culturally
sensitive learning environments and modify instruction
to be culturally responsive?
Communicating High Expectations
to Students (CHETS)
This series of online modules is intended to assist instructional staff to understand the critical relationship between teacher expectations and student achievement. The modules provide a wide variety of learning experiences designed to assist teachers to examine their beliefs, values, attitudes, and dispositions as they influence teaching and learning.
Schools that want to use pre and post assessments and private discussion boards, should contact Angela Burrell and David Kreisberg. Modules can be accessed without those features using these links:
The Diversity Training and Development Team Book
Club was established as a forum for discussing current
research and best practices related to diversity
and equity.
The Diversity Team has created pre, during, and
post activities for online articles in various
categories. Click on the link below to access these
