Questions:

  • What are the components of the A&S PGS?

Attracting, Recruiting, Mentoring, Developing, Evaluating, and Recognizing.

  • What kinds of supports can you access through the PGS? Whom do you call for these supports?

Supports come from the Office of Organizational Development.  Initially, supports will include training on the six leadership standards, writing a Professional Development Plan, and creating a professional portfolio.  The Office of Organizational Development is generating a cadre of  mentors who will eventually be trained to assist their colleagues.  Contact David Steinberg, Director of the A&S Professional Growth System, in the Office of Organizational Development for more information and assistance at 301-353-8870.

  • What professional development opportunities and materials are available?

Numerous professional development opportunities are offered to school-based administrators and central services administrators. Some examples are:

    Developing a portfolio

    Creating a professional development plan

Learning the evaluation process for administrators

Understanding the Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) process for teachers

    Facilitative Leadership

    The Collaboration Action Process

Opportunities are announced through the monthly messages sent by the Office of Organizational Development to school-based administrators and to central services administrators. Administrators can use the PDO system to register for workshops, seminars, and courses. Administrators can contact the Leadership Development Team in the Office of Organizational Development at 301-353-8870 when questions arise

  • What are the standards of evaluation for your position?

There is a set of six standards for principals which we call the leadership standards.  These are the standards by which principals will be evaluated in 2006-2007.  In addition, there are standards for assistant principals and student support specialists that are derived from the principals' standards.  Assistant principals and student support specialists will be evaluated using these derived standards.  A third set of standards have been developed for central services administrators.  These standards, though derived from the principals' standards, were designed to fit appropriately the roles and functions of the many different positions that occur in central services administration.  All administrators who are being evaluated this year will use the standards for their position.
