About this video:
- This video models how to introduce the RFP for the Alternative Energy unit. The lesson occurs after the instructional sequences on electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism and sets the stage for the Energy Summit. Student groups are assigned to research different sources of energy: fossil fuels (coal, petroleum and natural gas), nuclear, solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, or hydroelectric. Individual students are assigned a specific role within a group advocating for each of the forms of energy to ensure necessary research is obtained and multiple perspectives are represented. If expectations are met, students should reach consensus that solar energy is the alternative energy to pursue in response to the unit’s RFP.
