Parent Infant and Preschool Programs

The birth-three year old program is coordinated with the Infants and Toddlers Program in Montgomery County. All babies and parents receive weekly home-based services, to facilitate parents' adjustment to deafness, and to provide appropriate early intervention including auditory learning, language and communication skill development. In addition, parents and children come to the center-based program at Rock Creek Valley ES for weekly parent groups and for additional individual or small group activities.

Deaf and hard of hearing children who are developmentally ready for preschool classes, usually three and four year olds, participate in half-day or full-day classes, where auditory training, language and communication skill development are emphasized, along with an added emphasis on age-appropriate concept development. Language is taught in "conceptual units" or themes that apply to preschool learners, with a heavy emphasis on experiential learning.
