Elementary School Programs

Aural/Oral

This program emphasizes oral skill development, the use of amplification, auditory learning, speechreading, and speech. Not every deaf child has sufficient residual hearing to learn effectively through the auditory channel, but many can. The Aural/Oral Elementary Program is at Rock Creek Valley ES.

Total Communication

This program encourages the use of all available communication channels for the deaf student including speech, speechreading, audition, sign language, and fingerspelling. The Total Communication Elementary Program is at Lucy Barnsley ES.

Cued Speech

This program uses a system that has eight hand shapes and four vowel group positions. Sounds that look alike on the lips are cued differently, so they can be distinguished from one another. Cues represent the sounds of spoken language. The Cued Speech Elementary Program is at Flower Valley ES.
