MCPS Careers: What We Believe

In MCPS, our work is based on the following core values:
- Every child can learn and succeed
- The pursuit of excellence is fundamental and unending
- An ethical school system requires fair treatment, honesty, openness, integrity, and respect
- A high-quality school system strives to be responsive and accountable to the customer
The efforts to develop and implement programs which honor these values can be found in the strategic plan, called Our Call to Action: Pursuit of Excellence. Progress on the goals is measured annually and adjustments are made. The ultimate goal is to create a school system in which the academic success of students is not predictable by race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language proficiency or disability. This goal is what drives the work of all employees.
In MCPS we believe that it takes all of us, teachers, support staff and principals working together as a team to provide the optimal support to our students. No one group of employees can produce the goals we seek for our students and community. Teachers serve in a variety of roles to deliver a strong instuctional program. Our support services employees create the environment for learning and fill a wide variety of positions ranging from instructional support for the classroom to skilled trades that keep our buildings functioning at their peak levels of performance. Our administrators are leaders who support the work of all their employees to create high functioning schools and offices.
We believe that it is the extraordinary people in the system who make the difference. To achieve the strategic goal of creating a positive work environment, programs have been put in place to recruit, hire and retain the best educators, including teachers, supporting services and administrators. There is a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development for everyone. We celebrate individual and group successes. The school system leaders work closely with the elected leaders of the employee associations on all aspects of the school system.
