New Coach Information
 


This page provides some basic information to help prospective coaches get started. To be a coach in MCPS, you must be interviewed and hired by the athletic director at the school with the opening and must have taken an approved course in prevention and treatment of injuries. If you would like to coach, but do not know of a specific vacancy, print the New Coach Form and mail it to the address on the form.

THREE WAYS TO BE A COACH
(taken from the New Coach Form)
 
To be a Bona Fide Coach you:

  • must be an MCPS teacher
  • must be enrolled in or have completed a one credit course Application for PE-22: Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries which is offered periodically through the division of Aesthetic, Health, and Physical Education
  • should contact the local high school athletic director for information on coaching vacancies
  • should complete the General Application Form for New Coaches General Application Form on this page to be included in a database of available coaches
     

To be a Level I Emergency Coach you:

  • must be a certified teacher
  • must have completed the equivalent of a one credit course Application for PE-22: Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries which is offered periodically through the division of Aesthetic, Health, and Physical Education
  • must attend the one session MCPS "Coaching Seminar" which is offered each season
  • should contact the local high school athletic director for information on coaching vacancies
  • should complete the form General Application Form for New Coaches to be included in a database of available coaches

To be a Level II Emergency Coach you:

  • must be a high school graduate and at least 21 years of age
  • must have completed the equivalent of a one credit course Application for PE-22: Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries which is offered periodically through the division of Aesthetic, Health, and Physical Education
  • must attend the one session MCPS "Coaching Seminar" offered by the Division of Aesthetic, Health, and Physical Education
  • should contact the local high school athletic director for information on coaching vacancies
  • should complete the form General Application Form for New Coaches to be included in a database of available coaches

Note: Hiring is done at the local school level by the athletic director and principal.
