The Science, Mathematics, Computer Science Magnet program is designed to offer accelerated instruction in the areas of math, science, and computer science for highly motivated and able students. It is a rigorous program that emphasizes the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and the pursuit of both independent and collaborative research projects. Students will have unique opportunities to partner with mentors from many local and national businesses and research organizations.

  • Complete independent research projects that have received nationwide notoriety
  • Build robotic devices and conduct challenging experiments
  • Participate in field experiences

Students may apply for the Science, Mathematics, Computer Science Program at Montgomery Blair High School or Poolesville High School—depending on their geographic area.

To apply to the Blair program, students must live in one of the following high school clusters: Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Winston Churchill, Richard Montgomery, Rockville, Sherwood, Walter Johnson, Walt Whitman, Thomas S. Wootton, Northeast Consortium, or Downcounty Consortium

Admission to the Science, Mathematics, Computer Science Program is very competitive. Criteria used to evaluate candidates include teacher recommendations, written statements from candidates, previous grades, coursework, and test scores.

Students may apply for the Science, Mathematics, Computer Science Program at Montgomery Blair High School or Poolesville High School—depending on their geographic area. Poolesville High School is a whole-school magnet program, divided into three houses: Global Ecology House, Humanities House, and Science, Mathematics, Computer Science House.

To apply for the Science, Mathematics, Computer Science House at Poolesville High School, students must live in one of the following high school clusters: Clarksburg, Damascus, Gaithersburg, Magruder, Northwest, Poolesville, Quince Orchard, Seneca Valley, or Watkins Mill.
