Country Reports on Human Rights Abuses  U.S. State Department Reports.
Country Commercial Guides  Written description of every country's economy by the Department of Commerce. Writing is on a high level.
Country Studies Handbook  An extensive outline of the culture, history, and current situation of every country by the Library of Congress. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page to get the list of countries.
E-Conflict  A simplified version of the CIA Factbook, contains maps,flags, government, economic, geographic, and population data for every country.
Human Development Report, 1998   UN Development Programme
Human Rights Watch World Report 1999   Events and developments in 68 countries from December 1997 through early November 1998, offering excellent overviews of the conditions of human rights on regional and selected national levels.

The World Factbook, 2001 from the CIA   Contains maps,flags, economic, geographic, government and population data for every country.
World Population Profile: 1998   From the US Census Bureau, this highlights major demographic trends and the roles played by the developed and developing nations in these trends, and identifies some of the key elements and questions behind global population change.
