The Spray "Family"
There are
fourteen people in the Spray "family." Master Spray,
who owns the plantation, and Mistress Spray, his wife, have seven
children and five indentured servants.
The main
work of the family is growing tobacco. They rely on a ship captain
to transport their tobacco to England. When it is sold, the profit
is used to purchase goods from English merchants. The goods are
shipped back to Maryland. The yearly cycle of producing, shipping
and selling tobacco begins again each spring at the start of
a new planting season.
