Attic Rooms

There are two upstairs rooms in the house. Both rooms are used for storing food. Barrels hold corn kernels that will be ground during the winter months. Herbs and gourds hang from the rafters to dry. This is where seeds are stored for the coming growing season.

Indentured servants and the older children in the family also sleep upstairs. The women use the front room. They can reach it by a stairway that is located beside the hall fireplace. The men use the back room. They enter this room through a hole in the kitchen ceiling using a ladder.
