- Pose the problem: Students are presented with a shopping list for a Sunday dinner. Items to be purchased include:
- 1 chicken ($.89 per lb.)
- collard greens ($.49 per lb.)
- corn-on-the-cob ($3.00 a dozen)
- rice ($1.59 for 16 oz. box)
- black-eyed peas ($1.29 per bag)
You have $10.00 to purchase food to feed 4 people. The prices for the food have been taken from the food section of the newspaper. Students work in pairs to solve problems.
- Reflective Dialogue:
- Will you be able to purchase the items for dinner with $10.00?
- Is there enough change left to purchase dessert?
Extension

Technology Link
