COMMENTS:
During the time of the Underground Railroad, slaves would hang a quilt over the roof of a house for good luck. Students can create quilts using either an A.I.M.S. lesson (Pieces and Patterns) or the activity suggested in the KID PIX AROUND THE WORLD ACTIVITY BOOK.
TECHNOLOGY LINK:
  • Use MacUSA (PC Globe Inc) to paint states that were part of the Union and the Confederacy. Use Regional Maps /Civil War.
  • Use KID PIX STUDIO (Broderbund) to create a quilt as shown on page 20 of the KID PIX AROUND THE WORLD ACTIVITY BOOK by Barbara Chan (Addison Wesley, 1994).
