DESCRIPTION: Located in the heart of Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a self-guided tour of the last surviving ship of the Civil War. U.S.S. Constellation was built in 1853 for the Navy and is considered a replicate of the Navy's first frigate, Constellation, launched in 1797 in Baltimore. Guards on ship will answer questions. Gift shop available.
Guided tours are available for groups of various sizes. Guided tours focus on giving students and teachers a complee tour and history of the ship and also include some interpretive events, interactive activities and living history. The time for this tour is about 2 hours. Fees are in addition to the basic tour admission stated above. For groups up to 20 - $75; groups up to 40 - $150; groups up to 60 - $225, groups up to 100 - $300. There is also a half-day program at $300 for groups up to 30 and a full day program at $600 for groups up to 30. These programs include extensive pre and post trip support for the teacher and curricular connections depending on the needs of the teacher. The full day program includes assessment material and MSPAP tasks.
In addition, the Constellation can also coordinate trips with the National Historic Seaport. Students will spend time aboard Constellation and vessels of the Baltimore Maritime Museum during trips that focus on history and science.
