DESCRIPTION AND RESOURCES

DESCRIPTION: Annapolis has been Maryland's capital since 1694. Its State House is the oldest legislative building in our country still in use. As such it was the hub of three centuries of colonial, political, military, commercial, and social life in Maryland. Guides in 18th Century colonial dress lead groups to St. John College, the Liberty Tree, the State House, U.S. Naval Academy, and the City Dock. Visitors see the exteriors of the Chase/Lloyd and Hammond Harwood houses. Guides carry a basket of artifacts to enrich the discussions about history. The basic tour is described above. Optional tours include seeing the interiors of Colonial Kitchen ($1 each) and/or Hammond Harwood House ($2.50 per student, $3.50 adult).
