DESCRIPTION AND RESOURCES

DESCRIPTION: This is the 1793 house of Mary Pickersgill who made the flag that flew at Fort McHenry in the 1814 battle. The house is furnished in the Federal Period. There is a brief audio-visual presentation of the War of 1812 which includes the writing of the "National Anthem." The museum shop sells flags from different countries and patriotic souvenirs. House is located near Little Italy in Baltimore. Free parking on Albermarle St.

Tours can be modified for students; programs include: "Red White and Blue," and the "Stars and Stripes Tour." There is a special program, "Star Spangled Banner Day" for grades 3 and up at a cost of $5 per student. Students spend the day at the site and see a video, the town house, an on-site food historian demonstrates and provides information about cooking of the period, a hands-on sewing or craft project, and students take part in an interactive drama based on relevant content. These special programs are offered two days a week (probably Thursday and Friday) from 10 am - 1:30 pm. Inquire to be certain.
