DESCRIPTION AND RESOURCES

DESCRIPTION: This is an 18th century fort used as the cornerstone of Maryland's frontier defense during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The stone walls and barracks have been restored. Children see a movie on the history of the fort and tour the museum, visitor's center, and fort. Interpreters are dressed period uniforms. Includes a musket demonstration. The park was built as a CCC project. It includes a wetlands area and a recreation area and the C & O Canal goes through the park. Book your visit as early as possible, but be sure to arrange your bus transportation first. Fort Frederick is located 18 miles west of Hagerstown, off I 70, exit 12.
