DESCRIPTION AND RESOURCES

DESCRIPTION: This company provides walking tour of the oldest historic district of Alexandria. Costumed guides and children walk on the same streets as George Washington and Robert E. Lee. The tour starts across the street from the Visitors Center at the corner of King and Fairfax Streets in Old Town Alexandria. Guides recount experiences of people in this 18th cent. seaport. The walking tour covers the seaport town's development and the importance of the river. Guides carry items used by 18th cent. schoolchildren. The tours will take groups past Gadsby Tavern Museum and Carlyle House. Teacher must make arrangements with each museum at additional cost to tour the buildings. Tour company can also take children to art center in Torpedo Factory and on a waterfront cruise (45 min.).

When making arrangements for the tour, please let Mr. or Mrs. Michals know of any special characteristics or interests of the students so they can be accommodated. If you wish to visit other properties in Old Town also, the teacher should make reservations directly with those properties and tell Mr. or Mrs. Michals; they will work their plans for your group around the schedule. Ask about bus and car parking when making reservations for the tour.
