DESCRIPTION AND RESOURCES

DESCRIPTION: Focusing on three themes, maritime history, estuarine biology, and paleontology, the Calvert Marine Museum showcases the life and times of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay.

Select any 5 of these 30 min. tours: "Fossil of Calvert Cliffs, "Estuary Patuxent: A River And Its Life," "Maritime Patuxent: A River And Its People," "Marsh Walk," "Water Birds,"" Small Craft Exhibit," "Drum Point Lighthouse," and "Discovery Room." The Discovery Room is filled with hands-on creatures and a large sand box containing shark teeth for students to uncover and keep.

Another tour for 1 hour is the "J.C. Lore Oyster House." The Oyster House displays activities of watermen. Wednesday through Sunday, wood carver/model making shop open. Fossil field trip may be arranged at local site (cost is $5/person for a 2 hr. program). Public and charter cruises ($100) available with the full program tour on the historic vessel "Wm. B. Tennison ," May - Oct., W - Su. Make arrangements as far in advance as possible.
