DESCRIPTION: Guides present a lecture tour though an 1805 stone farm house (or the Dauddy house) explaining the decorations and furnishings of an Old Order Amish house and sharing the Amish people's history, culture, and religion.
The house has two parts, an old and a new section. The museum is now theme oriented, with sections on Native American artifacts, farm food preparation equipment, woodworking tools, blacksmith tools, grain processing and farm transportation. In the corn barn, from April through October a "quilt lady" demonstrates various quilting techniques. Often a woodcarver and occasionally a blacksmith are also present and provide demonstrations.
Local crops are grown and many kinds of farm animals and fowl inhabit the barns and meadow. Students will discover animals, the water wheel, windmill, lime kiln, and quarry while exploring the farm. A special price package is available for this site in conjunction with either the Discover Lancaster County History Museum or the Weavertown One-Room Schoolhouse. Museum includes conestoga wagon, Native American artifacts, antique dolls, and other early American artifacts.
