Basic Facts/Data Sources
INFONATION  A database of geographic, economic, social and population information provided by the United Nations. Choose which country and data you would like displayed in a table.
The World Factbook, 2001 from the CIA   Contains maps,flags, economic, geographic, government and population data for every country. Update for 1997 is much easier to use.
The Corruption Perception Index  Ranks countries by how corrupt they are perceived by the international business community.
Country Reports on Human Rights Abuses  U.S. State Department Reports.
Country Commercial Guides Written description of every country's economy by the Department of Commerce. Writing is on a high level.
Country Studies Handbook An extensive outline of the culture, history, and current situation of every country by the Library of Congress. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page to get the list of countries.
E-Conflict  A simplified version of the CIA Factbook, contains maps,flags, government, economic, geographic, and population data for every country.
United Nations Resource Source  A menu to the many different educational resources offered by the United Nations.

ASEAN Focus Group Histories  South East Asia short country histories.
Ask Asia  A K-12 related site that includes many lessons for teachers, Asian news updates, links to other resources for students to study Asia and an "Adult-free Zone" for students.

South China Morning Post  Hong Kong's leading English language newspaper since 1903 now has an internet edition. Requires registration, but is free.

India Resources

Flowers Underfoot  An outsanding web site by the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art that incorporates the history and culture of India into the ancient art of rug design.
Harrapa  A graphically oriented site that describes the ancient culture of Harrapa in the context of modern day India. Be sure to check out the Around the Indus in 90 Slides section.
India Picture Questions  A web site developed by an MCPS teacher. Includes 11 photographs and related questions.
