June 6-19, 1838. The first group traveled the river trail to Fort Coffee. Low water forced them to travel overland from Arkansas.

September 28, 1838 - January 17, 1839. This route has only recently been confirmed by historians.

October 11, 1838 - January 7, 1839. This group signed the Treaty of New Echota and traveled on a different route overland, perhaps to avoid problems with other Cherokees angry because they lost their land under the treaty.

October 23, 1838 - March 24, 1839. This group had to camp for a month by Missouri's Gasconade River because they were too ill to travel.
