New England

Prairie

  • Includes states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut (prior knowledge)
  • Along the Atlantic Ocean except Vermont (prior knowledge)
  • Gray seals found swimming offshore
  • Colors of the sea: blue, gray, green, depending upon weather
  • Sarah's brother was a fisherman
  • Flounder, sea bass, bluefish are kinds of fish he caught
  • Often saw whales and lots of sea birds
  • Found seashells and sea stones on the shore or in shallow water
  • Sea is salt water
  • Storms are called squalls
  • Grew gardens containing dahlias, columbine, and nastrurtiums
  • Could walk to town
