Technology in PEP Classrooms

PEP classes are supplied with Windows computers equipped with Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer. All PEP computers are connected to the MCPS network allowing staff to use it for e-mail and internet access.

In addition, each computer is equipped with an Intellikeys and related software including Intellipics, Intellitalk, and Overlay maker. Each PEP class also has a license for Boardmaker and Writing with Symbols 2000 software by Mayer Johnson and KidPix Deluxe by Mattel Interactive (formerly Broderbund).

Other assistive technology found in each PEP classroom includes: a Voice in the Box augmentative communication device by Frame Technologies, and a BIGmack or One Step Communicator augmentative communication device from Ablenet. Many PEP classes also have additional BIGmacks, Step by Step Communicators, various switches, Introtalkers or Alphatalker augmentative communication devices, and Touch Windows by Edmark.

In addition to the equipment listed above, Beginnings classes all have several BIGmacks Universal Switch mounters, Powerlinks, and an All-Turn-It Spinner by Ablenet, Touch Windows by Edmark, various switches and other augmentative communication devices such as Talk Pads and Voice in the Box by Frame Technologies, as needed for the student population.
