Oral Language

  • This Intellipics What's in the Mailbox game helps children explore the vocabulary of things you might find in the mail: letter, package, valentine, newspaper, birthday card, advertisement, postcard. These are similar to the things found in the book The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

Writing

Reading

  • Read the book The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Although the text is difficult for a preschooler, the book has an aspect of repetition and the book is interactive. There are actual envelopes built into the book with various mail items inserted that can be removed and unfolded.
  • This Jollytalk Boardmaker for Windows file contains adapted text which is simpler and contains a repeating phrase making the text more appropriate for a preschool level. You can use removable two sided tape or a Post-It brand glue stick to attach the adapted text into the book temporarily. There are two formats, one with just the text and another with picture symbol support under the text. The text is formatted to fit inside the book covering the words but not the pictures. Included is also a communication board for talking about the book.
