the Good Friends Adapted Book. The .zip file contains a title
page and three story pages done in Boardmaker for Windows to use
to make a flap book. There is also a text file containing the
teaching ideas listed below. The illustrations are not there since
they are copyrighted, but they are simple and you could easily
add your own. If you would like to create original illustrations
for this book, I would love to add them to the files. I can always
use help converting Windows files to Macintosh format. Send
me any additions you would like posted.
The picture that goes above the adapted sentence comes from graphics that I took from Step Builders magazine.
This book is meant to be a flap book in which a heart made of oaktag covered with red construction paper is laminated and fastened on to the page using tape or paper fastener. The book reads like this....you first have them read the sentance and then flip up the heart to show the illustration. The order of the book goes....
1. Good friends love to hug
2. Good friends love to play
3. Good friends love to share
4. Good friends love to walk together
5. Good friends love to clean up toys.
6. Good friends love to care.
Tactile symbols and objects can be used on the illustrations above. For instance...
1. hug - brown/white fur from coat or hat to represent the
bear and bunny
2. play- small wheel from a toy to represent the bicycle in picture
3. share - a peg or block with velcro in which the child takes
off the bear illustration and puts it on the cat illustration
to represent giving and sharing.
4. walk together - attach toy doll shoes to the page by shoelaces
so that child can manipulate them reciprocally (up & down
movement)
5. clean up toys - attach pocket shaped like a box with a small
2- dimensional toy attached to a string to represent clean up
6. care - attach a cloth to represent a blanket
1. Songs and movement
"Friends, Friends, 1,2,3", "The More We Get Together",
"Barney Song", "Hugga Hugga" by Rosenshontz
Hot potato movement and games
2. Body part identification - take bear and identify hands, feet, eyes, nose, mouth.......
