Dinosaur Eggs
Have you tried making your own dinosaur eggs?
- Paper mache large balloons with several layers of newspaper, (with
our kids I use cross tutor 6th graders to help with this project.)
Use liquid starch and cut the newspaper up into about 4 inch squares or
bigger. It helps to alternate the funnies with the regular newsprint so
you can keep track of where you've been on the egg and tell how many layers
have been puton.
After they dry, usually takes about two days, cut a small hole out of one
side and place a little dinosuar toy inside. Then repaper over the hole.
Paint them with poster paints, my kids choose all sorts of colors and we
just added lots and lots of white to get a very pale egg. We let them put
dots on or streaks etc. to represent different kinds of dinosaurs according
to what little one they had inside their egg. ie, stegosaurus had little
dots of brown, the triceratops had green streaks etc.
We made a huge nest in the room out of leaves, small twigs, and several
different kinds of plants.
We had the kids turn the eggs once every three days for fun effect (and
calendar/counting skills).
