The purpose of this memor= andum is to inform you of new recommended procedures when using high school students= or parents as chaperones during your students’ outdoor education experience. Due to increased concerns from the community and staff regarding safety and security, the Ou= tdoor Education Program has produced an information brochure for volunteers and a disclosure form for potential chaperones to complete. This action is necessary to ensure students’ safety and security.
Schools are strongly enco= uraged to collect a completed disclosure form from every community member serving = as a chaperone and retain the forms until the completion of the outdoor education experience. Additionally, it = is requested that you regularly check the Megan’s Law folder available t= hrough the school system.
Disclosure forms and volu= nteer brochures are available electronically on the Outdoor Education Web site, f= rom the outdoor education staff who will be working with your school, or by cal= ling the Lathrop E. Smith Environmental Education Center at 301-924-3123. If you have additional questions o= r need clarification, please call Mr. David Honchalk, supervisor, Outdoor Educatio= n Program, at the above number.
