Skycroft Environmental
Education Center Procedures

Please adhere to the following guidelines and policies of Skycroft.

  1. There are five buildings: Western (48 beds), Poplar (72 beds), Valley View (20 beds), 2 chalets (20 beds each).
  2. There are "No Trespassing" signs located behind Poplar and Western Lodges. Please inform your group NOT to go beyond these signs onto the neighbor's property.
  3. Use of candles in any Skycroft building is strictly prohibited.
  4. MCPS policy - NO smoking or alcoholic beverages in any facility at Skycroft.
  5. Park only in the parking lot, not around the Lodges. We must keep these walks and areas clear for Emergency vehicles.
  6. Please use only the specific rooms/space you have been assigned. Do not enter maintenance buildings or areas/buildings not assigned to your group. Please stay clear of the Barn.
  7. Schools will be held responsible for any damage/vandalism to property and will be billed separately for such. Please inform the staff when damage occurs.
  8. All outside doors must be kept closed at all times. This is for fire & health codes.
  9. Before leaving, please pick up all trash from floors and grounds and place it in the proper trash cans.
  10. Breakfast is at 7:30 a.m., Lunch is at 12:00 Noon (11:00a.m. for day of departure), and Dinner is at 5:00 p.m.
  11. Fireworks, firearms, B.B. guns, sling shots, motorized bikes, etc are not allowed.
  12. Please do not throw rocks. This has become a problem and has caused a great deal of damage.
  13. Cooking of any kind is not permitted in any lodge or conference space. Snacks are permitted in conference space only. NO FOOD is allowed in sleeping areas.
  14. Speed limit is 10 M.P.H. while on Skycroft grounds.
  15. Please turn off all lights and heart when not in use.
  16. All sleeping facilities must be vacated by 10:00 a.m. to allow time for cleaning for the next group.
  17. Students can be considered for financial assistance if the parent(s) are not able to pay the full cost of the program (this includes all students, not just free and reduced lunch students). No later than the date of the trip, a list of students for whom you are requesting financial support should be sent to the Office of School Performance and Accountability with a copy to David Honchalk, supervisor of outdoor education, indicating, by individual, the amount of money paid by the student, if any. For accounting purposes, a form is attached.
  18. 18. On days the on-site coordinators does not spend the night, his/her availability will end at 4:00 p.m. On course instruction nights, the coordinator will leave Skycroft at 3:00 p.m.
  19. No trees or shrubs may be cut. Build fires in designated areas only. You are responsible for finding your own firewood. Please use only down and dead wood.
