ABOUT THE TWO ELEMENTARY HONORS CHORUSES

SCHEDULE

ABOUT: The Elementary Honors Choruses were established in 1982 to bring talented children of various backgrounds together to study and perform choral music representing a wide variety of historical eras and cultures and to achieve the following objectives:

  • To provide a high-level performance opportunity for fifth grade students with outstanding choral singing ability.
  • To help students develop and refine choral singing skills and enhance their ability to read music.
  • To reinforce Program of Studies objectives for the elementary general music program.
  • To bring talented children of various backgrounds together to study and perform choral music of a variety of eras and cultures.
  • To strengthen the choral program in MCPS elementary schools by providing opportunities for teachers to observe exemplary choral teaching techniques.
  • Students are auditioned by the elementary general music teacher at their school and participate in either the North or South County Chorus, depending upon the location of their school.
  • The directors, accompanists, and managers are Montgomery County general/choral music teachers.
