Unit 1

Unit Overview

In this unit, students extend their understanding of problem-solving strategies learned in previous mathematics courses. Students solve problems independently and in small groups by organizing information, following Polya’s four-step process, and applying formulas. They deepen their knowledge of proportional reasoning, including unit (dimensional) analysis. Students continue their study of functions from Algebra 1 by analyzing functions and their characteristics when represented numerically, graphically, and algebraically. Linear equations and functions are developed and solved using real-world applications. Finally, students study the graphs of functions, describing their characteristics such as domain, range, increasing, decreasing, constant, as well as minimum and maximum points.
