In this unit, students model and solve real-world problems using systems of linear equations in slope-intercept form and standard form. Students solve systems of linear equations numerically, algebraically, graphically, and using matrices. Students flexibly and appropriately use substitution, linear combinations, graphing, and matrices methods to solve and analyze intersecting (consistent), parallel, and coinciding linear functions.
Students examine linear equations in slope-intercept form and standard form and explore the equivalency of those linear equations. Throughout this unit, the use of graphic representations will benefit student understanding.
In Algebra 1, students solved systems of linear equations that resulted in intersecting, parallel, and coinciding lines. They studied numeric, algebraic, and graphical solutions. In this unit, students will appropriately choose a method of solution based on their analysis of the equations.
In Algebra 1, students performed operations on matrices, including addition, subtraction, and scalar multiplication. In this unit, students will extend their knowledge of matrices to include matrix multiplication and inverse matrices.
