Prekindergarten

What your child will learn

Students in Prekindergarten begin to build a foundation of mathematics concepts and skills in real world situations.

  • In Unit 1, students explore how objects can be sorted by color, shape, and size. Students learn how to describe the position of an object. Students describe how objects can be ordered and compared according to length and time. Students build on their knowledge of number relationships by modeling quantities to five using concrete objects, recognizing numerals to ten, counting to ten using one-to-one correspondence, and identifying the number of items in a set with one to five items. Students will organize and display data concretely on a graph.
  • In Unit 2, students continue to strengthen their understanding of number by using ordinal numbers, modeling quantities, recognizing numerals, counting, and identifying sets of objects with more, less, or equal numbers. Students recognize, duplicate, describe, and extend simple patterns, and common shapes including circle, triangle, and four-sided shapes.
